Bela's Story

I was in complete denial, after all I was just 32 years old, had a sweet 9-month-old baby, had a great job, and I always had consoled myself that my 30s were going to be the most exciting and rewarding times of my life. So I kept thinking that this can’t be happening, the pathologist made a mistake, I need to wake up from this bad dream. I pitied myself, asking, “Why me? Why now?”

This was life’s ultimate betrayal to me.

Then one day, I scratched my bald head and thought to myself, “What do I fear? What is the worst that can happen to me?” I knew the answer to that question and somehow I felt at peace and my heart calmed down.

One single story can inspire, teach and provide hope for women and men across the community. And whether it’s a story of survivorship, or information about innovative research or complementary treatments, the power of someone’s words can have an impact greater than you would ever imagined. On Friday, June 3, experience the inspirational stories and photographs of seven local women whose lives have been impacted by breast cancer. The gallery show will coincide with the Downtown Raleigh Alliance First Friday activities and kick off Go Pink for the Cure, when local businesses get pink in support of our cause.
