These projects have been selected by our independent Grant Review Panel as those that will have the greatest impact in serving uninsured or underinsured women in our service area. Please note that Susan G. Komen for the Cure is not a direct service provider.

Caring Community Foundation, Inc. 

“Pay It Forward” provides financial support for breast cancer patients, providing assistance for rent, utilities, food, transportation and other items in the face of cancer treatment. Contact Caring Community Foundation, Inc.

Caswell Family Medical Center

“Mobile Screening Mammography for Caswell County” provides mobile screenings, education and treatment support to women in a county with no hospital or permanent mammography facilities. 336-694-9331.

Community Health Coalition

“The Sisterhood Project Part Two” will address health disparities by providing education about breast health and access to free screening mammograms for African American women in Durham.

Crossworks

“Breaking Free—Breast Cancer Awareness for Black Beauties” provides breast health information to high-risk, African American women through beauty consultants at local salons in Nash and Edgecombe Counties.

Duke University

“Breast MRI Screening for Uninsured and Underinsured Women” provides free breast MRIs to women who are at the highest risk for developing breast cancer living in the affiliate area.

Edgecombe County Health Department

“Edgecombe Breast Health Initiative” is a collaborative effort to provide comprehensive, culturally sensitive breast health education and screening. Contact Edgecombe County Health Department

El Centro

“Las Damas de Rosa/The Pink Ladies” will train Lay Health Educators to provide breast health education and outreach to Latina women in Durham County. Contact El Centro 919.687-4635 x35

El Pueblo

“Communidad Sana” is a comprehensive breast cancer awareness program operating in collaboration with a variety of agencies to reach uninsured Latinas in a ten county area. Contact El Pueblo.


Granville Health System

“Granville Breast Health Initiative” will partner with local churches and businesses to focus on breast health education, screenings, and post-surgery follow up care in Granville County.

Harnett County Department of Public Health

“Mammography Outreach Program” is a program designed to increase access to mammograms for underinsured and uninsured women through education and outreach.

Johnston County Health Department

“Breast Screening, Education and Cancer Assistance” provides education, screening and diagnostic mammograms and ultrasound and other assistance. Contact Johnston County Health Department

Lincoln Community Health Center

“Mammography for Low-Income Uninsured Women and Men” provides screening, diagnostic mammograms and support groups to low-income, uninsured in Durham County.

Maria Parham Medical Center and Granville-Vance Health Dept.

“Project Pink” provides education, screening, treatment and other support services in Vance County and its surrounding areas.

Nash County Health Department

“Mammograms for Life!” supplements the BCCCP program and provides women in Nash County with mammograms.www.health.co.nash.nc.us

NC Office of Disability and Health, UNC-Chapel Hill, Frank Porter Graham Child Development Center

“SES: Support, Educate, Screen” provides education and screening services to women with intellectual disabilities, as well as education to caregivers and providers. Contact NC Office of Disability and Health, UNC-Chapel Hill, Frank Porter Graham Child Development Center.

Piedmont Health Services, Inc.

“Project Access” offers culturally appropriate breast health education and screening mammography to poor, uninsured women in Caswell, Chatham and Orange Counties.

Planned Parenthood Health Systems

“Educate, Screen, Diagnose: Filling the Economic and Cultural Gap for Young Women” provides free, culturally appropriate clinical breast exams follow-up diagnostic evaluations particularly for African American and Latina women under the age of 40. Contact Planned Parenthood.

The REX Foundation

“REX Mammography Certificate Program” provides screening and/or diagnostic mammograms through Rex’s Breast Care Center or Mobile Mammography.

UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Family Medicine

“Hazlo por tu Familia” provides clinical breast exams, diagnostic screenings, lymphedema treatment, counseling and survivorship services by peer navigators to Latinas in Chatham County.

UNC- Chapel Hill Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

“Lymphedema Patient Care Fund” will provide funds for necessary lymphedema garments for uninsured and underinsured women in order to help them comply with their rehabilitation needs.

Wake County Human Services

“Educate Our Women” seeks to increase knowledge and awareness about breast health/cancer and screening resources among uninsured African American and Latina women, .

YWCA

“ENCOREplus®” is a community-based breast cancer early detection program servicing high risk, low resource women of the triangle area.
