National Spotlight

Who are you running for? — Join in the fight against breast cancer by running a full or half marathon through Marathon for the Cure™

Rally for the Cure — Golf, tennis, dinner events and so much more...

A brand to trust — We are honored that Susan G. Komen for the Cure® ranked number one in a recent Harris Interactive poll as the most valued non-profit brand and the charity people are most likely to donate money to. Additionally, Komen for the Cure ranked second on the 2010 list of the nation’s most trusted charities. Thank you to all who help us daily in the fight to end breast cancer!

Pink Goes Green!

 What We Are Doing

  • Downsizing the size and paper usage for printed Race materials
  • Encouraging online transactions to save paper (and money on postage!)
  • Putting Race Day instructions on our website instead of printing 20,000 copies on paper
  • Using rain checks for Race t-shirts if we run out. The exact quantity of extra shirts will be ordered after the Race, if needed, rather than over-ordering up front and then discarding additional shirts.
  • Minimizing packaging for Race Day items
  • Designing signage and Race Day decorations so that they are reusable
  • Accommodating charter buses with special Race Day parking (contact the office for details!)

What Our Sponsors and Partners Are Doing

  • Reducing packaging for give-away items.
  • Offering recyclable packaging and cutlery for food items.
  • Packing their materials in re-useable and recyclable boxes.
  • Avoiding use of products that cannot be recycled.

What You Can Do

  • Use online resources and registration instead of paper.
  • Plan to carpool to the Race, park in one of our satellite locations and take the CAT Bus to Meredith.
  • Only take a Race t-shirt if you plan to wear it sometime… everyone is entitled to a shirt, but you don’t have to take it if you don’t want it!
  • Recycle and compost everything on Race Day.

We need your help!

Our goal is to recycle the waste generated at the Race, and we need to work together with you before during and after the event to ensure that all items at the Race are recyclable wherever possible.

Please find a list below of items that can be recycled, along with some steps you can take to support these efforts.

THANK YOU for helping us to make this Race a green event!

Items that Can be Recycled:

  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Glass bottles
  • Plastic bottles (soft drinks, yogurt cups, applesauce cups, etc.)
  • Aluminum cans, steel cans
  • Newspaper
