Race Options

There are three options for participants wishing to walk or run a 5K (3.1miles).

  • Competitive Open 5K (Co-ed)
  • Women’s Only Recreational 5K
  • Open Recreational 5K (Co-ed)

Competitive Co-ed 5K: To receive an official time and finish place and to be eligible for awards, you must register for the Competitive Open 5K, which begins at 7:00 am. As a competitive participant, you will be timed by a computer chip worn on your shoe. However, awards will be based awards will be based on gun time, not chip time. Important things to note for the competitive event:

  • There will be NO Race Day registration for the competitive division.
  • You may pick up your chip on Race Day in the Registration Area beginning at 6:00am.
  • Volunteers will collect chips in the post-finish area.
  • Failure to return a chip will result in a $30 surcharge assessed to the participant.

Recreational 5K Races: If you do not care about an official time, then the Women’s Only or Open Recreational 5K are good choices for your Race. A large timing clock will be visible at the finish line. Remember: awards will only be given in the 7:00 am Open Competitive 5K. The two recreational races, particularly the co-ed race, are very popular, so please leave ample time in your schedule to get to Meredith Campus on Race Day.

One-Mile Fun Run/Walk: Can’t see yourself running or walking three miles? Then this event is for you! Enjoy a scenic jog or stroll around the beautiful Meredith College campus. This event is perfect to do with children who are too old for the stroller but cannot quite make it through the 5K event.

A Tribute to Breast Cancer Survivors

Breast cancer survivors who wish to be recognized may pick up their complimentary pink cap provided by Zeta Tau Alpha and RE/MAX at the Survivor Pavilion. Additional survivor activities include a breakfast provided by Whole Foods Market®, group photo, special gift and recognition ceremony. We would also like to invite participants to recognize those special people who have been touched by breast cancer. “In Memory of” and “In Celebration of” back signs will be available for all Race participants. Other special treats are in store for our honorees. More Information.

Visit the Race Expo

Visit exhibits, enjoy a variety of entertainment, and get product samples and breast cancer educational materials from our Race sponsors and Community Grant recipients in our Race Town Expo area.

Kids!

KidZone: Bring the kids! The entire family can have a blast at this year’s Race! The KidZone features play areas, great activities and fun give-aways for kids ages 3 to 12. The KidZone will be open throughout all Race events. Children must be accompanied by parent to participate in KidZone activities. J. M. Smucker Company is the proud sponsor of the 2008 KidZone!

Little Road Runner Race: Children ages 3 to 5 are invited to run in the Little Road Runner Race, sponsored by Time Warner Cable and Road Runner High-Speed Online. This 100-yard “dash” starts at 10:15 am next to the KidZone area. Register at the entrance to the KidZone area on Race Day. Parent or guardian must complete and sign a waiver. There is no fee and each child will receive a finisher’s ribbon and a commemorative Race Day T-shirt (while they last)!

Safety: Strollers, Pets and Wheels

  • Meredith College does not allow pets on campus. Please do not bring pets to the event.
  • For the safety of all participants we discourage the use of inline skates and recreational scooters.
  • We strongly urge participants with strollers/baby joggers to join in the Recreational 5K events or the One-Mile Fun Run/Walk rather than the Competitive 5K.
  • We ask participants with strollers to line up behind runners so that they can enter the course first.
Thanks for your cooperation in helping to make this a safe day for everyone!
