Susan G. Komen for the Cure is a 501(c)(3) organization as determined by the Internal Revenue Service. Since its inception, Komen for the Cure - together with its Affiliate Network - has raised nearly $1 billion in the fight against breast cancer. General administrative and overhead expenses for the Foundation, including fundraising, are held to less than 25 percent. The NC Triangle Affiliate maintains an overhead ratio of 18-22%.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure was named one of America’s 100 Best Charities by Worth Magazine. The magazine credited Komen for the Cure as the creator of the “now famous and widely imitated Race for the Cure”.
Additionally, Susan G. Komen for the Cure has been named a top-rated charity by Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent evaluator of charities. Charity Navigator’s award of four out of a possible four stars indicates that we excel, as compared to other charities in America, in successfully managing our organizational finances in an efficient and effective manner.
Through your support of programs like the Komen NC Triangle Race for the Cure® and Pinkfest, the NC Triangle Affiliate raised more than $1.5 million last year and has raised more than $5 million since its inception in 1997.
Up to 75 percent of our net income stays in the community to fund breast cancer screening programs and educational outreach and treatment projects for underserved women and those without access to these services.In 2008 Komen NC Triangle will grant almost $1.3 million to local organizations whose innovative programs are providing uninsured and underinsured women in our community with education, screening and treatment services. The remaining net income, a minimum of 25 percent, supports the Komen for the Cure Award and Research Grant Program, which funds ground-breaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific programs around the world.
